About Dr Tony Accardi

Wednesday 24th, July

tony.jpgI am pleased to offer you some background information.

I was born in New Jersey and attended Somerset College for my undergraduate degree in Science and Math. While at Somerset I considered a career as a physiotherapist; however a good friend of mine sustained a whiplash injury to his neck. He was attending a physio, he decided to switch to Chiropractic care for his treatment. He noticed a remarkable improvement with chiropractic care, so I investigated the Chiropractic profession. It proved to offer a much greater benefit to patients. The idea of allowing the body to heal itself by aligning spinal bones to remove any nerve interference made great sense to me.

Every part of the body relies on proper nerve function. Drugs are never utilised with treatment. A referral from a GP is not necessary. So I eventually changed my mind and decided to become a Chiropractor.

I received my Doctorate of Chiropractic degree in 1983 from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport Iowa, USA. Palmer is known as the “Fountainhead” in Chiropractic circles. This was the birthplace of Chiropractic and the first College of Chiropractic, which was established in 1897.  Palmer bears the name of the founder of Chiropractic, D.D. Palmer. Log on to for further details. It was a great experience to attend Palmer as it has always stood for excellence and the historical value of being there while learning my profession was immence.

While at Palmer, students are required to treat patients from the community in a clinic. They do so under direct supervision by Licensed Doctors of Chiropractic or “Gold Coat” externs. Gold Coat externs have demonstrated exemplary proficiency in all aspects of patient care. I was awarded an externship of Gold Coat.

In 1991, I completed a 350-hour course in Chiropractic Orthopaedics. This gave me great insight into more complicated bone and joint conditions that people suffer with, such as Frozen shoulder, cartilage injuries of the knee, carpal tunnel syndrome of the wrist, tennis elbow etc.

In 1984 having recently married an Irish woman I opened my first practice in Poughkeepsie New York. I maintained that private practice until 2000 which is when my wife and I decided to move back to Ireland to raise our daughter.

In 2001 I opened my first office in Portmarnock. I opened a second practice in Balbriggan in 2003. I presently maintain offices in Clongriffin Dublin 13 and Balbriggan, Co. Dublin (see the tabs for the individual clinics).

March 2019 I was voted in for my second 2 year term as president of the Chiropractic Association of Ireland (CAI).  The CAI is the sole regulatory body in Ireland for Chiropractic. The association has taken it upon itself that all members continue with their Chiropractic education as well as staying current with CPR training. I have been an official member of the Chiropractic Association of Ireland since 2000. I have also served the CAI as the Ombudsman and Vice President. During my tenure as president I guided the association and it's members through the new GDPR regulations, a political and legal attempt to gain rights to refer for X-rays, the COVID-19 Pandemic, efforts to develop an undergraduate chiropractic program in Ireland, as well as the multitude of other everyday items running an association. I stepped down as president of the CAI March 2022.

I am a member of:

European Chiropractic Union

World Federation of Chiropractic

Palmer Alumni Association

Chiropractic Association of Ireland

New York State Chiropractic Association:

Chiropractic focuses on neurological and musculoskeletal integrity. Chiropractic aims to favourbly impact health and well-being, relieve pain and infirmity, enhance performance, and improve quality of life without drugs or surgery.
